GCompris needs your help!

At the beginning of this month, we launched a crowdfunding campaign to support my project to work on the artwork and graphics redesign for GCompris. The goal of this project is to provide better unified graphics to all different activities inside GCompris. It is quite a big work, so I really need some financial support to work on it fast enough.

The fundraiser started very good, but then we had less contributions in the next days.. We need to make more noise and reach more pepole, so please donate and keep spreading the word to your friends and family. Still I want to thank all who already donated and/or left some nice comments. As well I want to thank Mageia.org for their nice support, see their interesting blog post about it.

I count on your support, and hope the spirit of Christmas will help us.
And by the way, I wish you all some happy holidays!

Some postcard illustrations to help KDE through the winter…

KDE winter fundraiser

If you’re following KDE community news, you probably already know that we’re running a donation campaign to help funding KDE community costs for next year.
Everyone giving at least 30€ will recieve a cool postcard featuring Konqi, choosing one of the three models available.

So here are the three illustrations I made for these cards:

-Konqi Gift

-Konqi Freedom

-Konqi Party

So please consider giving something to this fundraiser, and enjoy the postcards! 🙂

On a side note, this week-end I’ll be at the Capitole du Libre and Akademy-Fr in Toulouse.
I’ll give a talk about contributing to KDE as a user, another one about latest Krita news, and I’ll spend some time on the KDE booth to talk to people and show some cool piece of software.
If you’re in the area, come and say hi 😉

Back from Akademy 2014

So last week-end I came back from Akademy 2014, it was a loooong road, but really worth it of course!
Great to meet so much nice people, old friends and new ones. Lots of interesting discussions.

I won’t tell again everything that happened as it’s been already well covered in the dot and several blog posts on planet.kde, with lots of great photos in this gallery.

On my part, I’m especially happy to have met Jens Reuterberg and other people from the new Visual Design Group. We could discuss about the tools we have and how we could try to improve/resurrect Karbon and Krita vector tools.. And share ideas about some redesign like for the network manager…

Then another important point was the BoF we had with all other french people, about our local communication on the web and about planning for Akademy-Fr that will be co-hosted again with Le Capitole du Libre in Toulouse in November.

Thanks again to everyone who helped organize it, and to KDE e.V. for the travel support that allowed me to be there.

PS: And Thanks a lot Adriaan for the story, that was very fun.. Héhé sure I’ll think about drawing it, when I’ll have time.. 😉

Going to Akademy 2014

Akademy 2014

In two weeks I’m going to Akademy 2014, the annual summit of the KDE community.
This year it will take place in Brno, at the University of Technology, from September 6th to 12th. As usual, the main talks will be during the 2 first days (6th-7th), then we will have a week filled with Birds-of-feather, workshops and meetings. I’ll present a workshop about “Creating interface mockups and textures with KDE software” on Monday 8th.

Akademy is a really important event for the KDE community and for Free Software more generally. That can happen thanks to the support from some generous sponsors. You can become one here, or make some donations to support KDE through out the year here.

See you @ Akademy 2014!

Krita booth at Siggraph 2014

This year, for the first time, we had a Krita booth at Siggraph. If you don’t know about it, Siggraph is the biggest yearly Animation Festival, which happened this year in Vancouver.
We were four people to hold the booth:
-Boudewijn Rempt (the maintainer of the Krita project)
-Vera Lukman (the original author of our popup-palette)
-Oscar Baechler (a cool Krita and Blender user)
-and me 😉 (spreading the word about Krita training; more about this in a next post…)

Krita team at Siggraph

Together with Oscar and Vera, we’ve been doing live demos of Krita’s coolest and most impressive features.

We were right next to the Blender booth, which made a nice free-open-source solution area. It was a good occasion for me to meet more people from the blender team.

Krita and Blender booth

People were all really impressed, from those who discovered Krita for the first time to those who already knew about it or even already used it.
As we already started working hard on integrating Krita for VFX workflow, with support for high-bit-depth painting on OpenEXR files, supporting OpenColorIO color management, and even animation support, it was a good occasion to showcase these features and get appropriate feedback.
Many studios expressed their interest to integrate Krita into their production pipeline, replacing less ideal solutions they are using currently…
And of course we met lots of digital painters like illustrators, concept artists, storyboarders or texture artists who want to use Krita now.
Reaching such kinds of users was really our goal, and I think it was a success.

There was also a bird of feather event with all Open-source projects related to VFX that were present there, which was full of great encounters.
I even could meet the guy who is looking at fixing the OCIO bug that I reported a few days before, that was awesome!

OpenSource Bird Of Feather

So hopefuly we’ll see some great users coming to Krita in the next weeks/months. As usual, stay tuned 😉
